5 Top Tips to Lose the Pounds Quick

With Christmas just around the corner and more nights out than your liver cares to think about, it is the perfect time to check out some quick weight loss tips that will help you look so much better in all those beautiful outfits you have been planning.

It is the best time to be strict and abstain from all those tempting treats, as when Christmas day rolls around, you will be able to enjoy that beautiful dinner, drinks and treats all the more, as you will feel as though you have really earned the ultimate cheat day.

If you follow these tips during the days in the run up to Christmas you are guaranteed to lose a few pounds/inches and look amaze in your beautiful new outfits.

1. Drink hot water with lemon & peppermint tea
The best way to start your morning is with a cup of hot water and lemon, as it will immediately jump start your metabolism and help flush out any toxins whilst aiding digestion. It is also only 25 calories.

Replace your regular tea with peppermint tea, as I mentioned before in this post, peppermint tea has some amazing benefits. It not only helps digestion but it also suppresses appetite as the strong scent has been shown to help control appetite and suppress cravings. So if your automatic reaction after dinner is to hit up the sweet cupboard, STOP and head for the peppermint tea instead.


2. A cup of Coffee a day
Coffee is a great appetite suppressant but only use a small amount of semi-skimmed milk and avoid sugar if possible, because if you load it up with milk and sugar that just completely defeats the purpose (obviously!).

Studies have also shown that if you have a cup of coffee before you exercise it will help you to push yourself harder without even realising you are doing so. As the caffeine is suppose to increase the release of free fatty acids in the bloodstream, which therefore helps you work harder for longer.

3. Say no to Bread and Pasta
Everybody knows white grain products are the devil and by cutting these out of your diet for a few weeks it will help slim you down because the carbs in these foods cause bloating, especially around your stomach. Replace with whole meal options or go one better and replace your potatoes, pasta, rice or chips with vegetables – hard I know but have you tried sweet potato fries? #YUMIMG_0331

4. Walk & Do your Squats
Wrap up, pop your headphones in, step out and get moving. Even if it is just 15 minutes a day make sure it is a brisk walk, get your heart rate going and feel the burn! You will not only burn some calories but the brisk walk will also help with your mood, as we all know exercise releases endorphins that in turn make us happy.


So if you are dreaming of your favourite chocolate bar and a lovely cup of tea, change it up and whip on your trainers and get out there.

Also, incorporate some squats into your nightly routine, do ten before you brush your teeth, so easy and it will tone you up! Or go crazy and try a squat challenge, do 10 on your first day and then add 5 extra squats every day after that!

5. Use a smaller plate
I think growing up in Ireland the rule was that you were not allowed leave the table until your plate was clean – if you never got the guilt trip speech that went like “Think about all the starving children in Africa that would love your dinner” are you really Irish?

So it has been engrained in us to consume every bit of our meals which results in being so stuffed that you can’t move, this is because it takes time for the feeling of fullness to properly kick in. Whereas if you use a smaller plate that will obviously mean a smaller portion, therefore a lot less calories, #winning.

Also don’t rush your meals and never eat in front of the telly, because you are so distracted you end up eating far more than you would have, had you been paying attention.

Still not full? Drink more water with slices of lemon or cucumber.


Even if you just make one change to your diet before Christmas, whether it be cutting out biscuits, no fizzy drinks or eating more fruit, I am sure you will feel all the better for it and then you can reward yourself will copious amounts of treats because “Hey I have been so good all December, I deserve this selection box!”
