The Pressure That Comes With January

I love January, it’s like a new start or as though you get to hit a reset button. It is that one time of year you are encouraged to take stock of where you are, think about what you want to achieve and where exactly it is you want to be this time next year.

However, it is an extremely tough month. Christmas has been and gone and you were only just finding your feet in the routine of eating everything within sight, drinking whenever you felt like it and lazing around glued to Netflix. Then bam its back to alarms, early mornings, a closet full of clothes that are now a little too tight thanks to all that “sure it’s Christmas” eating and the added pressure of trying to figure out the next year of your life in a day. To top it off you have no more presents to open and an Instagram feed full of celebs on holidays and motivational quotes that annoy you more than motivate you.

Not the most ideal way to get you motivated to hit the ground running and make all your dreams come true in 2016. Instead it can leave you feeling a little deflated and make you want to bury your head in the sand instead of in your gym bag, but if like me you want 2016 to be your year we are going to need to dust it off and make it happen!

I started by jotting down some goals I want to achieve this year as it is so important to have them clear in your mind and down on paper. Yes, I did find myself reading them back a few days later and immediately started to panic, how will I ever achieve that, 12 months is just not enough time, are these even possible? But that negative attitude is not going to get me a new Chanel handbag or my dream home now is it?

Instead I have decided to take a practical approach, ease off with the pressure and take it day by day. I am going to break down my goals and do little steps each day to make me closer to hitting them such as being more fearless with this blog or choosing a salad over the pasta because it all adds up and small steps everyday will add up to big advances in 365 days, at least that’s what I’m aiming for!

For days it gets a little overwhelming or as though my goals are not possible I am going to remind myself that Rome was not built in a day and any progress is better than none.

    Small steps make huge changes! That’s a great attitude towards it, too many five right in and are put off after a few weeks when the don’t see changes etc!! Xo
