The annual Met Gala that takes place in New York on the first Monday of May is one of the most iconic dates in the fashion calendar. Each year it has a theme and this year designers and celebs were asked to draw on Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology for inspiration.
The met gala is one of my favourite fashion events and I love to stay up and watch the drama unfold via Vogues live stream of the red carpet.
In my opinion, here are some of the sensational hits and shocking misses from this years gala:
Kendall Jenner in Versace: I always expect great things from this supermodel but this Versace gown is on another level. It makes her enviable figure look even more enviable thanks to the sleek fit and perfectly placed cut outs, her diamond encrusted hands, scraped back hair and soft makeup just adds to this showstopping look.
Beyoncé in Givenchy: Queen B is certainly giving us life in this latex floor length gown. It makes her insane figure look incredible as she is effortlessly poured into this pearl encrusted nude number. She knows what she is doing as she does it every single year, steals the show.
Joan Smalls in Balmain: When Kendall posted a sneak peek of this dress on her snapchat I knew it would be a stand out piece. It fits perfectly with the futuristic theme thanks to the collar detailing and it is full on glam as the entire piece is covered in crystals. This is the type of striking piece that you would expect to see at this prestigious event. Shame about the shoes though.
Karlie Kloss in Brandon Maxwell: The cut out details of this striking white dress is what makes it interesting and in line with the futuristic theme. Of course you would need a supermodel’s body to pull it off but it is one my favourites of the night.
Unfortunately, there were quite a few spectacular misses this year from Nicki Minaj’s black bandage overload to Solange’s yellow explosion to Kanye rocking up in jeans and coloured contacts. Unfortunately, alot was left to be desired unlike Lady Gaga’s choice of outfit or Madonna’s for that matter.
The reason I love this event is because of the glamour and this year there were a few looks that would not look out of place heading out for a spot of lunch, here’s looking at you Selena and Michelle Williams.
It is however the fashion highs and lows that always makes the Met Gala a spectacular showcase.
Who did you consider a hit and a miss at this years gala?
