Yesterday it was my birthday and it certainly was the best one yet. My lovely other half totally spoilt me, first with breakfast, then with lots of lovely presents and then he whisked me away for a surprise mini break. Much to my delight we ended up in Lough Erne, a five star resort with stunning scenery located just outside Enniskillen in County Fermanagh.
The hotel is so fab and the food in the Catalina restaurant is to die for, I had the salmon to start, stone bass for main and a passion fruit souffle with white chocolate icecream to top it all off, as well as the odd mojitio and some bubbles – sure it is only your birthday once a year so it is mandatory to go all out with not an ounce of guilt.
Before dinner we popped along to the spa which has the most beautiful mosaic rose display above the pool. There wasn’t many guests considering it was a Wednesday so we pretty much had the place to ourselves which was absolute bliss. It was so relaxing that today has been a struggle to come back to reality but all good things must come to an end – as they say. Not before I had pancakes for breakfast and tea and treats for lunch, yes I really did milk this birthday for all it’s worth!
I do really love birthdays, even if they do mean getting older, but now at the ripe old age of 27 I am so much more content and happy with my life and who I am, compared to how I was as a teenager, the one who thought she knew everything but didn’t actually know a thing. 26 was quite a tough year for me but it has taught me so so much and now as I get closer to 30 (ahhhhh) I think I am finally learning what is important and what this life is actually all about. Of course it is so lovely to get spoilt and be treated to all the finer things in life but the really important things are the people that you are lucky enough to have in it to go through the good times and the bad times with. Those special ones that are there to celebrate it with you not just on your birthday but everyday, to make you laugh, help you through the tough times and make you feel so truly lucky and grateful. It really is about the things money can’t buy that will make you the happiest and I think the sooner we all realise that they happier we and our bank balance will be.
Here is to getting older and wiser and to celebrating many more birthdays! Happy Birthday to all my fellow Virgo’s out there.
