What did we do before the gloriousness that is highlighter entered our lives? Our faces must have looked so dull compared the beacons of light they are now which can be seen from galaxies away. I jest, but in all seriousness highlighters are huge business considering they have only just recently become the phenomenon they are today. They have quickly become a fully pledged fundamental part of our makeup routine and no look is complete without a little cheeky cheekbone highlight or a little sumtin’ sumtin’ under the eyebrow bone to make those brows pop. Meaning the hunt is on to find those highlighters that blow us away with their dazzling pigment and shine and make us say “You Glow Girl” (sorry couldn’t resist).
Just as quickly as highlighters have exploded onto the mainstream market has it been flooded with offerings from literally every makeup brand out there. It seems no self respecting makeup addicts collection is now complete without a highlighter or 2000, a fact that the makeup companies know only too well and are therefore busy creating highlighters in the hope they become one of the elusive hero products, just like Sleek has managed to do.
As with all makeup there are the higher end versions and the “drugstore” versions and it is a task sifting through the mediocre highlighters in order to find the ones that are sublime in both categories. Sleek MakeUP seem to have won the race in the drugstore category as they have some of the most beautiful highlighter palettes on the market at the moment. The praise for these palettes, in particular the Solstice one, has well and truly been sung, especially by YouTube beauty guru and Queen of the highlighter, Miss Jaclyn Hill. Jaclyn has raved about how much she loves the Solstice palette and has even named it as one of her ride or die products and considering she has created one of the most loved high end highlighters on the market today, Champagne Pop, her’s is a judgement we should trust.
Sleek MakeUP’s Solstice Highlighting Palette instantly enhances the complexion with a radiant glow. This versatile face and body highlighting palette suits all skin tones and includes two baked powders, one luxurious cream formula and one silky shimmer powder.
Sleek MakeUP’s Precious Metals Highlighting Palette is a versatile face and body highlighting palette that complements all skin tones and includes three luxurious velvet cream formulas and one powder. The iridescent, metallic finishes add a radiant glow and a luminous polish to the skin.
These palettes are a thing of pure beauty. The Solstice palette is now considered a hero product in the makeup world as it features in most makeup fanatics collections as well as on their instagram. It includes a colourful and diverse selection with 1 cream highlighter and 3 powder highlighters. They are all fabulously pigmented and effortless to apply, you can build up each shade or apply them using a brush spritzed with MAC fix plus for an even stronger colour payoff. As you can see from the swatches below this palette offers a range of different highlighting options dependent on your mood or the makeup look you are going for, there is a pink toned shade as well as a purple, bronze and white shade. I love using Ecliptic on my eyes and Hemisphere on my cheeks. Equinox is also a beautiful shade great for when you want to create that bronzed goddess look. I haven’t really used Subsolar yet as I find it quite stark, having swatched it though I think it will make for a great eyeshadow base.
The Precious Metals palette consists of mostly gold toned highlighters, and includes 3 cream shades that are very creamy and 1 powder shade that is really pigmented. Each shade is stunning and I have been loving using them more as eyeshadows than highlighters because I prefer pink toned highlights for my cheeks and nose and gold shades for my eyes. The consistency of the cream shades is second to none, they are so creamy and buttery making them a pure delight to use. This is such a cute palette to have especially if you are trying to create a real bronzey, glowy, dewy look – which is always #goals.
These palettes feel quite premium thanks to their packaging and the product performance, however the black little bristly brush that is included lets them down slightly as I think it cheapens the palette. It is a brush that I would never ever use to apply highlighter as it is too big and doesn’t allow for any precision, they would be better to ditch the brush and make the shades bigger. Considering the price point of £9.99 and the fact that Boots are always having offers on the Sleek collection, such as 3 for 2 or buy one get one half price, I would say nab these beauties the next time you see such an appealing offer as they are must haves for your collection and from what I have tested they seem to be the best on offer from the drugstore. If your collection is already bursting at the seams and you could only squeeze one more in, I would pick the Solstice palette as the colour selection is much more diverse and includes more powder shades which are the ones that offer the most pigmentation and better staying power.
Have you tried these beauties yet?
