Five Foundations: The Good, The Bad & The New

What is it about finding the perfect foundation that is like mission impossible. Some are too light, some are too heavy, some make you orange, some make you white, some blend like a dream others feel cakey. Why does it have to be so hard to find a foundation that stays on all day while making my face look glowing, smooth, beautiful, dewy, matte, blemish free and match the colour of my neck? Not as if I’m asking for much really.

I am always on the hunt for that elusive perfect foundation and currently I find I am using lots of different ones on rotation depending on the type of coverage I want and whether I am tanned or giving Casper a run for his money.

One of my current favourites is the Urban Decay All Nighter and I have it in shade 3.25 which is a little light for me but once I contour and bronze it all tends to blend together quite nicely. I love the high coverage of this foundation and it’s staying power, it really is extremely long lasting and wears very well with minimal touch ups required, which makes it a winner in my eyes.

Next up is the Flormar Perfect Coverage Foundation, I had mentioned this foundation before and this is one I now always have a supply of as firstly the coverage is insane, it is really cheap (about €10) and it too stays put until you tackle it with some heavy duty cleanser. I use shade 102 which is a tad orange but when I have a nice tan it works perfectly.

L’Oreal True Match, again this is a foundation I always like to have a supply of because it’s great for day wear and is really easy to apply and blends nicely. Most people get on very well with this foundation I just wish it had a little more of a fuller coverage.

Now for the bad – Catrice All Matt Plus, I picked this up recently as I had been wanting to try out a Catrice foundation as I love their lipsticks and eyeshadows so thought I would give their foundation a whirl. Unfortunately this was a regret purchase for me as it just does not work for my skin type. It is cakey, doesn’t offer very good coverage, is really hard to blend and no matter what I do I always seem to be left with a bit I missed or a dreaded foundation line, so definitely not ideal. I have heard some of their other foundations are quite good so maybe I’ll try out one of those next time.

And finally the new – I had heard lots of great things about the L’Oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation so I as soon as I got near a Superdrug I picked it up to give it a whirl. I am yet to try it out but will report back once I give it a fair trial.

I also really want to try the Armani Luminous Silk foundation which every blogger and thier dog raves about, in the hope that it may be ‘the one’ and which will in turn end my hunt for that holy grail foundation that can do it all.

What is your all time favourite foundation and have you tried the Armani one?

  1. Great post! I actually haven’t tried any of these foundations. I do like the Armani one, I think it’s great but my holy grail is the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation.

Finding a good foundation is such a struggle, I completely agree! I recently bought the lightening drops from the body shop and they’ve saved a few of my foundations from being to dark! I must try some of these, they sound great xx
